Amaryllis Against the Snow

I took Lady Jane outside for a few minutes, and I was surprised at the difference in her colour.

Footprints In the Snow

As I was photographing these tracks in the stubble of the grain field,

I was struck by the bumpy appearance of the toes.

I went back to the duck tracks, and their toes are smooth. Does anyone know why some birds have bumpy toes?

Skywatch Friday

We have been having snow all week.

I think we have had more snow this week than in the whole rest of the month.

Iris Leaves

I noticed these iris leaves in a garden,

and was struck by their bleached appearance.

Watery Wednesday

The stream has running water, although it has a skin of ice on top.

In the upper right corner you can see a couple of ducks, working at keeping the water open.

The ice gives an interesting effect to the reflection of the spruce tree, and to the golden sunrise.

Another Cat

This is the sister of the gray cat. I was putting my shoes on after my appointment, and she climbed into my lap. I hated to put her down, but I had someplace to go...

Another Culvert

This culvert has more rocks in it. They make an interesting pattern on the ice.

Begonia Flowers

My begonia is blossoming as well.

The flowers really do have a sparkle to them!

Amaryllis in Existing Light

I have inherited a tripod,

so I can finally take photos of the Lady Jane

with the light streaming through her petals!

I love this effect!

Windows

These windows are in the house where the gray cat lives.

Sumac

I wonder how many times I have walked past this sumac tree without even seeing it?

Today's Flowers

It may not look like it, but these will turn into beautiful yellow forsythia flowers, in another six weeks. Time to cut some branches and bring them inside.

Lady Jane Amaryllis

My second amaryllis is starting to bloom.

This is the first of at least five blossoms.

Cattails

One of the advantages of walking early in the morning,

is the wonderful skies.

The cattails are looking rather weatherbeaten.

Snowstorm

These are really awful photos of the seedheads, but I like the effect of the falling snow.

Cat

This fine fellow greeted me in the parking lot. He was very friendly, and soft.

The white birches

are welcoming spring.

Birchbark

This bit of birchbark had been shredded from the tree.

I love the way it catches the light in different angles.

Watery Wednesday

Some of the ice formations we saw on our walks last week.

These are encapsulated in the thicker ice,

while these are the thick ice, taken edge on.

It was two to three inches thick.
