Morning Mist

There were a couple of mornings cool enough to cause mist to rise off the water.

Watery Wednesday

There was rain, and that means raindrops on the flowers and leaves.

Borage, and lady's mantle

and hibiscus.

This is a hibiscus leaf, and it took me a while to capture the water droplets, but I think it was worth it.

Raspberry

My raspberries are ready, at least. I cut the canes down every fall, as it seems to encourage more berries to set, but they are later in the year than when you let the canes overwinter.

MacroFlower Saturday

Tiny dewdrops on the purple loosestrife and joe pye weed florets.

Catmint

My catmint and artemesia are growing together, but it is so hard to pull either of them out...

The artemeisa may not flower, but the silvery foliage is still worth it all.

Caterpillar

This fellow was crawling across the sidewalk, and I had to photograph him, as I so seldom see caterpillars.

He was a couple of inches long, and seemed to know where he was going.

Plums on the Tree

We took a different route on our walk, and passed a tree loaded with plums. I have never been aware of it before.

Hawkweed Seed Parachutes

Most of the hawkweed has finished blooming for the summer

and the resulting seeds are ready to sail off to greener pastures.

Skywatch Friday

I have been showing you teasers of this sunset all week,

so here is the real deal, in all its glory.

If you look closely, there is a small flock of redwing blackbirds in the middle of the photo, just to the left of the sun.

And these are some late gulls, heading for the Ottawa River.

Reflections

On many days, the water is still and the reflections abound.

Or a fish breaks the surface, or Annie wades in belly deep, to cause ripples.

The sweet clover is mostly going to seed now, and the asters will bloom in another couple of days.

Joe Pye Weed

The Joe Pye weed is still blooming nicely, especially when the evening sun shines on it.

While some plants are still in bud,

others are much nearer the end of their life cycle.

Black Eyed Susans

The summer is winding down, and the black eyed susans are beginning to show signs of age.

But they have been blooming for nearly two months now...

Watery Wednesday

Walking beside the river as the sunset blazed in the west,

I was capturing its reflections in the almost still water.

Beaver

The beavers have been cutting down some of the young trees near the river all summer, but this is the first I have actually seen them.

A couple of them were swimming off to breakfast as the light was fading. I did try and photograph the one I saw on land, but there was not enough light, given how far he was from me.

Goldenrod

There is something about goldenrod against the blue water, or with the sun streaming through it

that accentuates its beauty!

Contrasting the shape of the goldenrod flowerets with Queen Anne's lace or white sweet clover is beautiful, too.

Borage

I have been playing in the garden again, capturing the borage flowers.
