Maple Tree

This maple tree had lost most of its leaves when the sunlight caught it one afternoon, last month...

Borage

Since the snow came in the middle of the week, the temperatures have plummeted, so I am hanging out in October...
I sure hope no one minds...

Results of My Mid-Term Exams

Thank you for all the well wishing!!
I got the results of all my exams this morning.
I got 86% in both the theory of radiology, and the theory of everything else.
I got 98% on the x-rays I took of the manikins' teeth. Sometimes it is hard to get the film in the correct place, after all the varnish that is put into the mouths, to protect them from the students.
But I only got 14 out of 20 in the instrument identification, mostly because, out of the 6 burs (drill bits), I only got one right.
So guess what I am going to have to spend more time on, in the next couple of months...
I am taking this course to become a dental assistant. Not the hygienist who cleans your teeth, but the person who assists the dentist while he or she is working in your mouth.
I will be done, the end of March...

Royal Visit, June 7, 1939

Before WWII, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth visited Woodstock.
There was a parade, with at least one band of bagpipes.
I am guessing these photos were taken by a cousin of my Mom.
I am linking this post with Vintage Weekly.
I am also guessing this is the royal car.

Radiology Mid-Term Exam

My radiology mid-term exam went well. I thought I mucked up a couple of the x-rays, but the teacher said I passed.
Monday will be my radiology theory exam (help - physics!!!), and instrument identification.
Tuesday will be the big theory exam.
Wednesday will be classes again.

Winged

In honour of Turkey Day in the United States, I am posting a turkey I found in Woodstock. I wonder how old it is (the concrete statues they make now have a finer texture), and how much it weighs, since it is about life sized.
I am also linking this post with NF Winged, not because this specimen can fly, but because the live ones can...

Abstract

I am being very indecisive this week -
I couldn't decide which of these images to post for NF's Abstract meme, so I am posting them both.
The first is an old log, half in the river, but that black spot makes it look like a dinosaur.
The second is an old wood and iron thing lying on a rock, part of the landscaping at Mom's new place.
What do you think?

Grapevine

I found this grapevine growing out of an old fence post, and thought you would find it as funny as I do...

Catch the Light

Saturday was a lovely sunny day, and I took full advantage of it.
But then I could not decide which image to post for NF Catch the Light, so I posted all three of them...

Morning Marsh

Annie and I headed out for our Saturday walk just as the sun was clearing the clouds on the horizon, and catching the cattails in this blaze of gold. Jake is fine, just complaining that he is too old for long walks, now that he is 13...

Old Photos

This photo was in the box my father kept his photos in. No one has any idea who the people are, though. That border was put on photos processed approximately 70 years ago.

Moon Carrot

I found this strange plant at the garden at the college.
Photographing the labels is so much easier than remembering the names of the plants, so you see this is really called a moon carrot.
I think I want one.
It is taller than I am,
but I have no idea whether it is an annual or a perennial.
With hollow stems, I am betting an annual...

Swan Story

Last July, there were four swans at Southside Park in Woodstock.
A pair, with a cygnet, and a lonesome one.
One morning, Lonesome got too close,

and Daddy got mad.

He chased Lonesome half way across the pond,
while Mom sailed serenely on, carrying her cygnet.
Daddy came back, so proud of himself.
But it didn't last long...
I should have stayed to watch, because, when I was out of camera range, they took the fight onto the shore.

Bindweed

I am still hanging out in July - what do you expect when the temperature is several below freezing?
I was lucky to find a big patch of bindweed in my Mom's lawn, with some of the blossoms open, and others still thinking about it...

Milkweed Leaf

Back in September, the milkweed leaves were dying back, but they were also catching tiny seeds.

Photo from 1955

Doing my weekly scan of old photos, to send off to my sisters. This one is my Mom and me, with the machine that dug the basement for the house I grew up in, the one my Mom sold a couple months ago.

Winged

I have gone back to July, those halcyon days before I started school, to find this little worker in the flowers.

Experiment on the Bus

I would really love for you all to comment on these images.
I took them from the bus, on the way to visit my Mom last week.
On this one, you can see a bit of reflection in the window.
I started taking them, envious of the beautiful lake and mist
on the other side of the road,
and decided to see what I ended up with.
I like some of the trees near the road, racing past,
while the background is in focus.
The bus windows are polarized, so the images are a bit dark...
I have deleted most of them, but these are the best of the lot.
You can click to enlarge them, too.
This last one is my favourite...
