Blossoms

Fortunately, the foot of snow we received this past week does not affect the flowers in the house.
The forsythia is about done - I will have to gather more branches...
I doubt the lilac will actually blossom, but I love watching the buds develop.
And the Valentine's Day cactus is trying to be an Easter cactus, too!

Watery Wednesday

I woke to snow blanketing the ground yesterday.
And the lilacs and other trees.
The temperature was hovering around freezing all day,
but the snow turned to slush and then to rain.
Other than the interesting photo ops,
a day to stay indoors and read.

Forsythia Buds

The record-breaking temperatures last week have everything growing earlier than usual, including my forsythia bush.
Now the cold temperatures have put everything into a holding pattern.

Macro Flowers Saturday

I brought some forsythia branches inside last week, and they have started to bloom.
I have done it for years, but the cheery yellow blossoms never fail to amaze me.

Last Days of the Forsythia

The cheerful yellow blossoms which greeted the spring

have finished for another year.

We may be sad to see them go, except we know the plants are preparing for next spring.

Forsythia

I admire this forsythia hedge

every afternoon, as I head home from work.

It is kind of in the middle of nowhere, so I wonder who planted all the bushes.

But the cheerful yellow flowers are enough

to explain anything away.

Forsythia

The branches of forsythia I brought indoors three weeks ago are at their height of beauty now.

Today's Flowers

Two weeks ago, I brought some forsythia branches indoors

so they could bloom earlier than the ones outside.

They are starting to bloom now.

I took the vase outside for a few minutes to photograph them in natural light.

Today's Flowers

It may not look like it, but these will turn into beautiful yellow forsythia flowers, in another six weeks. Time to cut some branches and bring them inside.

Last of the Forsythia

Last week, the branches were covered with blossoms.

The bushes make a beautiful hedge in the spring. And, for Bronwynn, who queried the size of the bush - I measured the fence (left side of the photo) at 59 inches. That puts the top branches into the 10 foot ballpark. Also puts the width in the same range, if I can estimate anything.

The flowers are falling off the bush now, having done their duty,

and the leaves are sprouting.
