I am fascinated with the steam coming from furnaces at this time of year. Much more active than clouds. A waning moon simply adds to the appeal.

Autumn Leaves

It is getting to be that time of year - 

the leaves are changing colour, and falling.

Soon enough, the trees will be bare.

Geese

The geese are flying every which way these days.

 They are getting their muscles in shape for the long migration later in the month.

Peace Tower

I like this view of the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill, from the National Gallery. You can see the top half of the Tower, and the spire of the Library. I don't know why the crane is there, though.

After the Rain

Comes the rainbow - I did not even see the second rainbow above the first one till I was processing the captures!

And what about the repeating colours in this stretch of the rainbow?

There was a dramatic sunset, after the rainbow, too!

Borage

The borage is growing around the front lawn this year, so I was crawling around, capturing the blossoms against the sky.

I love the way the light comes through the petals, and catches the tiny hairs...

Rainbow

There was a rainbow, so I opened the front door, and quickly captured it, before letting all the warm air out.

I am going to see my Mom, and will be back on Monday afternoon.

Grass

It's that time of year again -

the grass is in blossom.

I can capture the florets, but not the pollen...

Serviceberry

The serviceberry, or shadbush,

is a small native tree,

about 40 feet tall.

The starry blossoms don't last long.

Last night's rain washed most of the petals to the ground

or the nose, as Annie demonstrates.

Pussywillows

There are more than 400 species of willows,

and they hybridize easily.

That means there must be

more than 400 variations

on pussywillows,

as well.

The last couple of days,

I have been checking all the willow bushes

in the area,

and capturing their pussywillows.

Some of them have advanced beyond

the pussywillow stage

into bloom,

while others are still little grey catkins.

I would hate to have to try

and sort these out by species.

So much simpler to enjoy them...
