Winter Flowers

There are not a lot of flowers in winter,

but the frost sure livens up the ones I can find.

First Snow

Ottawa woke to the first snow of the winter.

 And I kind of went overboard

 capturing it

 on plants and boulders.

Queen Anne's Lace

I know the Queen Anne's lace 

 quit blooming a couple of months ago,

but I love the bird's nest effect of the seed heads,

 especially with frost.

I have been enjoying the QAL with my new camera,

 choosing where to focus.

 It is another invasive weed,

 but I still enjoy it.

 

Shadows

 

I was capturing the delicate florets of the Queen Anne's lace, when I noticed the shadows on the pitcher.

The Queen Anne's lace still looks lacy with a bit of snow on it.

 

A Walk in the Snowy Woods

The morning rain turned to snow

 and I took the long way home,

 through the quiet woods.

 I stopped often to admire the

 beauty of the snow.

The Queen Anne's lace is almost done for the summer, and the flowers are closing up into the bird nest shapes they will hold for the winter.

Bindweed and Queen Anne's Lace

Bindweed is a relative of the morning glory,

 but grows in the fields and fouls the machines.

 I love the shadows the Queen Anne's lace casts on the bindweed.

Queen Anne's Lace

Yesterday, I told someone that I had not seen any Queen Anne's lace this year,

 so what do I find this morning?

 Three of them, with more buds on the way!

Seems like summer is here...
