Purple Loosestrife

A little further along our walk we crossed the rocks between the pond and the marsh, and admired the purple loosestrife, still with the low morning sunlight.
I am linking this post with Todays Flowers.

Purple Loosestrife

The purple loosestrife is starting to bloom.
I know it is a terribly invasive plant,
but it does make a good cut flower.

Shadows

There was enough sun for the weeds beside this fence
 to cast shadows today.
It was so good to see the sun...

Purple Loosestrife, With Fluff

Purple loosestrife seed pods beside a frozen pond,
with captured fluff - either milkweed or cattail...

Shadows

I may have forgotten what sunshine looks like,
but these shadows on a board fence
 prove that it exists.

The light was just perfect for some landscape photos.

Today's Flowers

More bur cucumber flowers, with purple loosestrife in the background.
And a poor photo of how the bur cucumber plant can pull a sunflower over, with its weight.

Joe Pye Weed

Joe Pye weed is one of the few wild plants I can think of that comes in more than one colour -
my plant book says only the pink, but there is a lot of white around here, too.

Fish Bones

A month or so ago, a large fish was caught in the rocks between the pond and the marsh, and died.
I avoided the area for weeks, till I could be sure there was nothing for the dogs to roll in.
There is nothing left but the bones, now, and I have been photographing them. And thinking about a story I used to read my daughters - "A Harp Made of Fish Bones".

Purple Loosestrife

Purple loosestrife is such a gorgeous colour
I can almost forgive it for being such an invasive weed.

Macro Flowers Saturday

Macro photos of purple loosestrife are so hard to take, with my little point and shoot camera, so I tried using a large Queen Anne's lace flower as a backdrop.

Purple Loosestrife

The purple loosestrife is starting to bloom.
I know it is a terribly invasive weed, crowding out native species, but I still love the colour!

Jewelweed

Spotted jewelweed, or touch me not,

is a common wild flower in damp places.

The juice from the stem is supposed to be an antidote to poison ivy,

or it can be used against athlete's foot and other fungi.

Watery Wednesday

There was a heavy dew this morning,

so we had a long walk,

even if we didn't go very far.

Too many bejeweled spiderwebs!
