Leaf Trapped in Ice

One of the wonderful things about snow, is the way a dark object can become warmed by the sun, and sink into the snow.

Ottawa woke to the first snow of the winter.

 And I kind of went overboard

 capturing it

 on plants and boulders.

 when you look up

 to see the leaves on the trees,

 and down to see the leaves on the ground.

At the beginning of the week,

 the mornings were cold enough 

 that there was ice on the puddles.

I was at the Ottawa River yesterday, 

 and taking photos of lots of things.

 Here we have waves and a leaf in the sand.

 

Lacy Leaf

This leaf makes an interesting pattern against the water.

Bur Cucumber

There are almost no flowers left on the bur cucumber plants.

The fruits are ripening. They are not edible.

But some of the pods have ripened and dropped their seeds already.
