Dawn at the Carp River

One thing about this time of year -
I am up before the sun.
Some days there are clouds
to catch the early sun.
I love the way the trees are caught in silhouette
against the delicate colours.
I am linking this post with Nature Footstep Catch the Light.

Sunflowers

I like all the little hairs on the bud of the sunflower
and the way the light comes through the petals

Wild Sunflowers

There are four or five species of wild sunflowers
and I have never figured out which ones grow here.
I simply enjoy the yellow blossoms,
and share them with you.

Sunflowers

I was at the college garden again, and found some sunflowers.

Sunflowers

I have not seen many sunflowers this year,

in fact, this was the only patch I found in bloom.

So I am posting a selection of them, and a heart for Clytie,
 before winter overtakes us again.

Jerusalem Artichokes

The Jerusalem artichokes are finally blooming.
They are another member of the sunflower family,
but the preferred part for eating is the tuber, rather than the seeds.
I don't care for them which explains why they are taking over my back yard.
They are a good cut flower, though, and I like the colour, even if they are known in the family as B's favourite yellow flowers.
Sarcastically.

Sunflower Family

These members of the sunflower family (there are at least 20, according to my book)
are certainly reaching for the sun.

Raindrops

There was a bit of rain in the night,
not enough to count for anything,
but enough to stay on the petals of the sunflowers, and others,
and give us hope of more rains to come.

Today's Flowers

More bur cucumber flowers, with purple loosestrife in the background.
And a poor photo of how the bur cucumber plant can pull a sunflower over, with its weight.

Sunflowers

I have found a large patch of sunflowers
under a bird feeder near a walking trail.
I love the back of the blossom almost as much as the front.

Today's Flowers

We took a day trip, and I found some sunflowers that were blooming already!

I have not seen any around here that are anywhere near blooming yet.
