Mississippi River

Last week, I got to Almonte, on the Mississippi River,

to capture some of the ice formations.

We had snow all day yesterday, and then the temperature dropped. 

It may look pretty, but it was censored cold!

Patterns in the Ice

It's that time of year again...

I walk first thing in the morning, and the ice on the puddles makes for some interesting images.

And all of them are different...

Sunday Walk

Today was the first I have gone for a walk without a jacket,

so spring is really here.

I took the dogs around the far side 

of the marsh,

past where the coltsfoot are blossoming.

The patch is getting larger!

Some of the pussywillows are finished blooming,

but not all of them.

Annie kept saying "Come on in, the water's fine".

There were a lot of the trees coming into leaf

or bud.

The next image is red elder, in bud.

Jake was starting to say we had walked far enough.

But we were not all the way around the marsh yet...

We went past a couple of old fence posts,

and admired the tiny leaves in the grass.

About this point, Jake's hip was unable to hold him, and I had to carry him a ways. Good thing he only weighs 29 pounds...

Also a good thing we were almost home.

Stream

A small stream leaping and bouncing down a small slope

catches the sunlight and shares its joy.

The still water of a small pond reflects the trees, while the busy streams rush to join the river.

There are two dams in the park near my parents.

This time of year, water flows over both of them.

Snowfall

On Friday, I was returning home bringing the snowstorm.

It was a mixture of rain and snow,

so I was happy to be a passenger.

Overnight, the temperature dropped and it was all snow.

Geese

 There were still geese earlier this week.

Some are coming in for a landing on the pond.
