Watery Wednesday

The garden at the college has a little stream running along one side. I like the small fountain near the parking lot.

Bowman's Root

Earlier in the spring, I posted pictures of the blossoms of the bowman's root at the college. This is what the seedpods look like now.

Daylily

This particular daylily is called Golden Prize.

It was the only one blooming at the college last week. I am hoping it is not raining tomorrow, and I can go again.

Another Mallow

The label on this plant at the college says it is a checker mallow.

Just for today, I am not going to even try and figure out how this is different from the mallows I have in my garden.

Golden Marguerite

More flowers from the college garden - these are a variety of golden marguerite called Wargrave, from the aster family.

I don't recall white flowers on the bush last year, but that doesn't mean there were none.

When you look really closely, you can see why the centre part is really made up of tiny flowers.

Daisy

I love this daisy with the dewdrops and the bit of grass for contrast.

Today's Flowers

The black eyed susans are starting to bloom in the fields.

They were my grandmother's favourite, so I always look for them.

Macro Flowers Saturday

The milkweed is blooming. It smells so sweet,

although I do not remember ever noticing that before.

I was raised to think it was a weed, and had no purpose, other than home to monarch caterpillars. Now, I can admire its beauty.

Bindweed

I found some bindweed blossoms beside the path through the field. They are a terrible nuisance when they get into a crop, but these are in a wildish area, so I can admire their beauty. Yes, they are related to morning glories.

More Irises

These irises did not have a label. I like the hint of purple in them.

The Cinnabar Red is a spuria iris.

Sky Wings is a Siberian iris.

And Dorothea K. Williamson is a Louisiana iris. I wonder how many more kinds of iris there are?

Cranesbill

The cransbill, or perennial geranium, is still blooming away at the college gardens.

The blue blossoms tend to fade to pink as they age. I think.

I was standing with the blossoms between me and the sun, and I love the effect. Maybe someone could explain to me how these little gems were boring?

Fleabane

Looking at these Azure Fairy Fleabane flowers in the gardens at Algonquin College,

I can see the similarity to the weeds, but these are MUCH larger, about 2 inches across.

Masterwort

Another plant I have never seen before. This is called masterwort.

And that is all I know about it.

Skywatch Friday

The wild grape leaves were catching the morning sun. I like the contrasting greens, between them and the trees around them.

The baby grapes are forming, too.

Unknown Yellow Flowers

There was a large patch of these yellow flowers at the college,

but no label on them, so now you know as much as I do about them.

Watery Wednesday

The goslings are starting to get their adult plumage.

It's odd that they are not all developing at the same rate.

But I suppose teenagers are much the same, even in other species...
