Damselfly

I love watching the dragonflies, but I find they never sit still long enough for me to capture them.

This fellow was willing to sit on a stalk of sweet clover long enough for me to get half a dozen images.

Spiderwebs and Dew

Another foggy morning, with the dew

 settled heavily on the branches of the sweet clover,

 which is still blooming,

for some reason known only to itself...

Dew Drops

Vines

I noticed that a wild grape vine was twining

 around a grass stem,

 and thought that would not give it much support.

 Since then,

 I have seen so many other vines,

 all clinging where they could.

 

Sweet Clover

Not the round ball-shaped clusters of regular clover,

 but sweet clover is still pretty, and a lovely addition to a salad or a bouquet.

There was frost this morning when I captured these sweet clover plants against the sky.

Sweet Clover

White sweet clover looks very much like yellow sweet clover, but the white is taller.

 I like stripping the flowers off the stalk, and using them to top a salad.

 

Reflections

On many days, the water is still and the reflections abound.

Or a fish breaks the surface, or Annie wades in belly deep, to cause ripples.

The sweet clover is mostly going to seed now, and the asters will bloom in another couple of days.

Goldenrod

There is something about goldenrod against the blue water, or with the sun streaming through it

that accentuates its beauty!

Contrasting the shape of the goldenrod flowerets with Queen Anne's lace or white sweet clover is beautiful, too.

Clover seeds with frost, on a foggy morning.

Feathers

These feathers have caught in the sweet clover bushes

that have gone to seed,

and then caught the dew in the night.

Bouquet

I picked myself a bouquet of flowers -

Queen Anne's lace, purple loosestrife, tansy, some wild grass, and a bit of sweet clover.

I love the mixture of colours and textures, shapes and colours. This Queen Anne's lace shows the purple heart of the flowerhead.

Today's Flowers

I am learning about the wild flowers found in the area. This is meadow salsify, which looks a lot like goatsbeard, but does not have the enlarged stem behind the flower.

And daisies are one of the flowers that everyone knows.

How about sweet clover? Very different from the spherical flower heads of the red or white clover.

This is birdsfoot trefoil. There is a lot of it growing in the lawns in the parks, now that the city is not spraying so much.

And vipers bugloss grows in the waste ground, before much else can get a toehold there.
