Fireweed

 

I don't remember noticing this plant before,

 but there was a lot of it along the bike path.

 It is fireweed, and is happily growing even though there has not been a fire.

 Looking at the curly cross shape of the stigma makes me realize it is related to the hairy willow herb.

 Those tubular things are the seed pods, and they burst sort of like a banana!

Black Eyed Susans

There are still black eyed Susans in the fields,

 but they are not blooming any longer.

 

Spiderwebs with Dew

More spiderwebs with dewdrops.

 There are simply so many variations on the theme...

Goldenrod with Bugs

I have managed to capture a few

 insects in the goldenrod.

 

Velvetleaf

I found a stand of velvetleaf plants, at the edge of a field of soybeans.

 About four feet tall,

their most interesting feature is their seed pod.

 It is so different from anything I have seen before.

I wonder what the seeds look like...

 

Dragonfly with Dew

While I was looking for spiderwebs,

 I found a dragonfly, covered in dew,

 waiting for the sun to warm it.

 

Skywatch Friday

Sunrise is getting later, so I am seeing colour in the skies on our morning walks.

 The colour makes the walking sentinels fascinating.

Wild Grapes

The wild grapes are starting to ripen.

 I love them, just kissed with the dew.

 I love the tiny perfection of butter and eggs,

 and the delicate colours!
