Knapweed

Knapweed is a member of the same family as cornflowers. You can see it in the shapes of the petals and the ovary.

I only encountered it two summers ago.

Goldenrod with Bugs

I have managed to capture a few

 insects in the goldenrod.

from sometime in the spring.

 A welcome reminder that the seasons will change again.

 

Sunflowers

I have not seen many sunflowers this year,

 in fact, this was the only patch I found in bloom.

 So I am posting a selection of them, and a heart for Clytie,

 before winter overtakes us again.

 

Russian Sage

The Russian sage down the street has full run of the front garden.

 To give you an idea of the size of the plants, the grape vines in the background completely cover the kitchen window.

 But it is a wonderful change from the lawns on the rest of the street.

 

Hosta Blossoms

I was looking at these hosta blossoms, 

 when a bee came along to admire them, too.

 Have you ever noticed how fast a bee moves?

This one is my favourite shot - climbing out of the bud!

Sunflowers

I have found a large patch of sunflowers

 under a bird feeder near a walking trail.

I love the back of the blossom almost as much as the front.

Bindweed

I had to stop and admire the bindweed again,

 and I managed to capture a bee, hard at work.

 

Purple Loosestrife

Purple loosestrife is an imported plant which is destroying a lot of coastlines in Canada.

It has no natural enemies, so most of the thousands of seeds produced by each plant are free to grow into next year's stand.

I do my small part by using it as a cut flower, where it lasts a long time.

And I do love the colour of it...

Unknown Yellow Flowers

There was a large patch of these yellow flowers at the college,

but no label on them, so now you know as much as I do about them.

Zucchini Flowers

While we are strolling down Memory Lane,

let's stop and smell the zucchini flowers.

The bees are doing it, after all!

Ptilotus exaltatus

Thanks to the seed catalogue,

these flowers have a name now.

Not an easy one to pronounce,

but something more specific than pink flowers. I have a lot of pink flowers in my archives!
