Purple Loosestrife

Purple loosestrife is an imported plant which is destroying a lot of coastlines in Canada.

It has no natural enemies, so most of the thousands of seeds produced by each plant are free to grow into next year's stand.

I do my small part by using it as a cut flower, where it lasts a long time.

And I do love the colour of it...

It does have a very beautiful color. It's a shame that it's so invasive. Lovely photos!

It's really a great colour. I suppose it would do more harm than good to try importing competition for it, but maybe some of the local plants will eventually learn to compete. Or it will take over and rule the world with an iron stamen
