Today's Flowers

This is one of the few flowers left after the frost. And it is not really a flower. It is kale or cabbage of some sort that becomes beautiful after the frost. While it is edible, it is very tough, so most people treat it like a flower.

Bleached Landscape

In the dawn light, the frost bleached so much of the colour from this landscape. Not that the ducks care.

Thistledown

While I was at Mooney's Bay,

I saw this thistle which had gone to seed.

I am so happy that my new camera will take photos like this!

I especially love the way the sun catches the threads of the parachutes that will sail the seeds away!

Rideau River

The park at Mooney's Bay is on the Rideau River,

and there is much variety in the vegetaion along its banks.

I always love the way the water refracts the sunlight

and creates dancing bars of light on the sand and leaves!

Elderberries

I am surprised the elderberries have hung on this long. All the ones in this area have been eaten, long ago, by the birds.

Rideau River

I went to Mooney's Bay again, and took some photos of the trees across the river.

With different trees (and cattails) in the foreground.

Skywatch Friday

This is a selection of trees from the last few weeks.

Many kinds of trees, and many colours of leaves.

Sometimes, no leaves at all.

Sometimes, the skies have been cloudy,

and sometimes they have been blue.

Geese Feeding

The geese are coming in for a landing

so they can join the several thousand already on the ground.

The farmer harvested the grain more than a month ago, but there was a lot left on the ground, and the geese are laying in reserves for their long migration.

A while ago, someone asked where I live. Well, if you cross the line of trees, the Carp River, and the major road, you get to the houses. I live about 20 houses east of here.

Geese at Dawn

If you get out before the sunrise,

you can watch the changing effects of the light.

The water is still warmer than the air,

so the mist rises, and softens the golden light.

Today's Flowers

The hibiscus is nearly done for the year.

Do you think the dewdrops look like tears?

Quarter Moon

The moon was still high in the sky

as the sun came up,

turning the birch leaves to gold.

Skywatch Friday

In the dawn skies,

geese and contrails appearing to collide!

The geese would be in focus if they would only fly more slowly!

Watery Wednesday

I love the light at dawn, and the way water reflects it. Here, a puddle reflects the golden light.
