Morning

The sky may be blue, but the wind is cold.

The cattails will soon be showing new growth, and last year's stalks will disappear.

Tree with Robin

The robins have been back for a couple of weeks, but it was only yesterday evening that one of them stayed still long enough for me to get the camera out.

Today's Flowers

The only blossoms here in Ottawa are still found on windowsills.

I don't know what the first flower is, but the sceond is a begonia, and the third is a hyacinth.

It's A Dog's Life

You go for a walk, and have breakfast, and then you need a nap in the sun.

Walk at the Dog Park

There was still ice, but less than last week. The snow was quite granular. Much easier walking.

There was a contrail crossing the sky, and the sun was not very far above the horizon.

But the birch trees are visibly budding now.

All these pine cones were clustered on two branches of the tree.

And the geese were flying over.

Skywatch Friday

Sunrise

I can't decide which of these two I like better. They were taken only a few minutes apart.

Sunrise Moonset

Last week, the moon was waning gibbous, and was setting as the sun was rising.

So there was some colour in the western sky, and the moon.

Forsythia and Lilacs

These blossoms are from the forsythia branches I brought into the house a couple of weeks ago. I took the vase outside to get the indirect lighting.

And this is a branch that has been outside all along.

Buds on the lilac bush.

Watery Wednesday

These are also photos from 2007, but they have water. I like the reflections in this photo.

Here you can see the reflection of the blue sky, and of the green cattails.

Water as a backdrop to various weeds. The yellow is birdsfoot trefoil. The purple is a vetch of some sort. The greenish ones are cow parsnip. And some timothy grass.

And various grasses and cattails, reflected.

Lilacs

I just need to see some flowers, so I am looking at the lilacs from May of 2007.

The white ones originally (so far as I know) came from an aunt's house. I have quite a stand of them now, and every time I take out the compost or the laundry, I have to stop and smell them.

Sometimes, I just go out and smell them for no reason.

Bubbles

Remember last month, I posted this photo of bubbles in ice, and we were trying to figure out how the bubbles were formed? Well, this weekend I was at the same stream, and there were bubbles in the water. Mystery solved!

Redwing Blackbirds

We walked beside the marsh today, and the redwings have come back.

I know these are not the greatest photos, but the best I could do with my little point'n'shoot.

Today's Flowers

Two weeks ago, I brought some forsythia branches into the house. They are blooming well ahead of the bush outside.

Canada Geese

The geese are returning. This was the firstpair I saw, on Wednesday, but there are many small flocks now. These two were very vocal.
