Violets

Most people think of purple violets
as being the only sort,
but that is not so.
There are at least 20 types in my book.
only a few in my yard, though.
I still have to crawl through the grass,
capturing each one...

Watery Wednesday

I woke to snow blanketing the ground yesterday.
And the lilacs and other trees.
The temperature was hovering around freezing all day,
but the snow turned to slush and then to rain.
Other than the interesting photo ops,
a day to stay indoors and read.
To see more wet photos, click the icon on the right. No doubt, most of them will feature liquid water...

Violets

I found violets blooming in the grass,
 all covered with raindrops.

 They are such tiny flowers...

Magnifying Glass

My father picked up this tiny magnifying glass somewhere. It is about an inch across.
My cousin can remember when they were all the rage.

Violets

The violets are blooming well in the back yard.
I like the raindrops on their petals.

Violets

These violets are blooming in the front yard, a couple houses down the block.
That good old southern exposure at work again.
I have a couple blooming in the back yard.

Violets

I only found one cluster of violets blooming,

but I don't think I have ever seen this colour before!

Violets

I am encouraging the violets

and other small plants to colonize my lawn.

They are prettier than grass, and do not go brown in the heat of the summer.

Violets

I have a lot of violets growing in the back yard.

I am still trying to get a good photo of the yellow violets.

After the Rain

If you use your imagination, this is a male cardinal, singing his little heart out. They prefer the top branches of the trees.

The forsythia is starting to bloom, as are the violets in my yard.

Raindrops on the daffodils, and the swelling bud of the lilac bush.

More raindrops on the peony sprouts. I love the way the leaflets are starting to unfurl!

Violets

My violets still look like this, but down the street

there are half a dozen clusters in full and glorious bloom!
