These are definitely peonies.
They are growing on the south side of the house, where they get the extra warmth from the sun. They are a couple of weeks ahead of the ones further away.

Southern sun against the framework of your home is doing wonders for your peony. I cannot wait to see what color it is. My guess, a deep rose colored peony.

I think the ones next to the house are a pale pink, if I recall correctly. And they will be blooming soon :3 I can't wait to see the pictures
I love peonies - ours are a long time from blooming yet. They cast wonderful shadows on the bricks!
