Fiddleheads and Ferns

I think these are ostrich ferns -

the ones that are gathered wild as fiddleheads

and served as a seasonable vegetable, with lots of butter.

If they are left to grow,

they uncurl into graceful ferns,

and blanket the woods.

I know what I'm searching for today. The fiddleheads taste like fresh asparagus. Thanks for sharing some cool pics of them.
