Chokecherry Blossoms

I have found several chokecherry trees in the area.

They are relayed to apple trees, as you can tell by the shape of the flowers, but different.

Apple Blossoms

It is spring, and the apple trees are blossoming!

I love seeing the shadows the early sun casts on the petals!

Barren Strawberry

I am still exploring the woods, looking for spring wildflowers.

The barren strawberry looks a lot like its edible cousin, except for the colour.

But the fruit only has one seed, and it is not encased in a wonderful fruit.

Fading Trilliums

As trilliums age,

they become pink,

and there is another beauty present...

Columbine

The columbine flowers are blooming in the woods now.

I had never seen them before I found this walking trail,

but they are such unusual blossoms!

Abstract Lichen

This patch of lichen on the granite caught my eye, but the original photo was not as interesting as I had hoped, so I played with the colours. I think this version is better.

Spring Beauties

I think these are my favourite spring wildflowers.

They are called spring beauties, and I have always thought that was a rather lame name. I mean, there are dogtooths or trout lilies, and trilliums, and bloodroots all around them, and they are simply spring beauties...

I am not denying that they are gorgeous, mind!

Tractor and Violets

I brought this tractor home from my father's last year, and finally got it out for a photo shoot.

Chipmunk

I was playing hide and seek with a chipmunk.

He said I couldn't possibly see him behind this branch.

Then I sat on some rocks and surprised him when he looked for me...

Abstract Tulips

I let my bouquet of tulips dry out, and chronicled their changes.

Dutchman's Breeches

I was going to show you a long post about my walk in the woods, but it is taking far too long to edit the 300 photos, so I will show you the ones I fell in love with this morning...

All the spring wildflowers are blooming, before the trees leaf out and cut off their sunlight. I spent over two hours getting down on the ground, and getting up again, to move to the next treasure, and the next morning, I wondered why my legs hurt...

Need I tell you that I am going again this week, to do it all again?
