Peonies!

It's my birthday, and I am celebrating with peonies.

The end of last week, we had more than 2 inches of rain, in 48 hours. 

The gardens were well watered...

Yesterday morning was sunny,

but there was dew on the peonies.

And everything else, I suppose...

Is there anything better than dew on peonies?

The peonies have started blooming,

and there was rain in the wee hours of the morning,

to add the icing on the cake...

Japanese Hybrid Peonies

I love the Japanese hybrid peonies,

 with their single layer of large petals

 surrounding a ball of smaller petals.

 I think they look like a bowl of ice cream.

 My favourite is whichever I am looking at...

 Of course, they do not smell as wonderful as regular peonies...

 

Peony Seeds

Some of the earliest peonies

 are setting their seed already.

I wonder how long it is from seed to blossoms?

Picking the peonies for my latest bouquet, I wondered how they would look with some grasses and lady's mantle flowers.
