A Member of the Poppy Family

I found this plant blooming at the gardens at Algonquin College,

 and it's a good thing I looked it up on Wikipedia - this is not the sign for this plant!!

So all I can tell you is that it is about 18 inches tall,

and a member of the poppy family, and gorgeous!!!

A couple of gardens I have seen in my travels.

 

Poppies

The gardens at Matheson House in Perth

 have also been restored to the sort of garden

 that would have been found in 1840.

 I loved the way the light came through the petals, 

 and got these psychedelic illustrations of how the camera sees things differently than the human eye.

Poppy Seed Pods

I love the shape of the seed heads from the poppy plants.

I shook seeds all over the gardens, so I am sure there will be more next year.

Borage

The borage leaves are big and hairy, although the small ones can be chopped into salads. They taste a bit like cucumber.

This is the first summer I have persuaded the poppies to grow, and I am hoping they will reseed themselves, along with the borage.

These two poppies were at the college, and I had never seen such colours before.

This one is about to open,

and another has already burst forth.

Poppies in the Sun

Walked past this bed of poppies this morning,

with the morning sun streaming through the petals

and gilding the edges of the buds

So bright and beguiling!
