Last July, there were four swans at Southside Park in Woodstock.
A pair, with a cygnet, and a lonesome one.
One morning, Lonesome got too close,
and Daddy got mad.
He chased Lonesome half way across the pond,
while Mom sailed serenely on, carrying her cygnet.
Daddy came back, so proud of himself.
But it didn't last long...
I should have stayed to watch, because, when I was out of camera range, they took the fight onto the shore.

Ha! That's funny. I've seen geese and swans get defensive before, but never photographed it!
The photos you get are amazing. Like usual, I love this.
I would love your address and email. Could you send them to me.

Hi Judy!! A great sequence of shots showing dad-swan defending his family!!
Great pictures. You sure got the action.
Your fight for the day in full bloom.
Awesome!
Poor Lonesome! Wonderful shots!
Thanks for sharing this fascinating story. You got great pictures of the action. Daddy is obviously the jealous type.
Beautiful series - they tell the story so well. My favourite is the second one - love that reflection.
Awesome shots! They are very territorial even when they don't have small cygnets.
Så vackra bilder du fångat svanar är så vackra fåglar.
