 I don't know what sort of plant this is, but it is a good six feet tall.

Almost makes me think of a Cone Flower but then I think Cone flowers are purple to begin with.

Rosy is right, cone flowers are purple and not 6 ft, but it does look similar. It must be the week for beautiful unknown flowers.

It's really quite beautiful. From what I could find, it's commonly called a yellow coneflower although it's often referred to as either a prairie coneflower or gray headed coneflower: Ratibiba pinnata.
