Gladiolas

Neighbours were kind enough to allow me to photograph the glads in their garden.

They come in so many colours!

And the insects seem to like them,

although I did not see any bees.

There is the expression "death or gladiolas" : roman gladiators (fighting with the sword = gladio, and the flower has her name because of the form of the leaves looking like swords) were killed or survived. When they survived they were celebrated with lots of gladiolas. So it became the symbol of power and victory. Or they are just beautiful flowers :-)
