Winged

In honour of Turkey Day in the United States, I am posting a turkey I found in Woodstock. I wonder how old it is (the concrete statues they make now have a finer texture), and how much it weighs, since it is about life sized.
I am also linking this post with NF Winged, not because this specimen can fly, but because the live ones can...

Swan Story

Last July, there were four swans at Southside Park in Woodstock.
A pair, with a cygnet, and a lonesome one.
One morning, Lonesome got too close,

and Daddy got mad.

He chased Lonesome half way across the pond,
while Mom sailed serenely on, carrying her cygnet.
Daddy came back, so proud of himself.
But it didn't last long...
I should have stayed to watch, because, when I was out of camera range, they took the fight onto the shore.

Winged

I have gone back to July, those halcyon days before I started school, to find this little worker in the flowers.

Mist and Geese

Early in the morning, the geese are discussing their plans for the day, before taking off.

Busy Little Bees

We have not  yethad a killing frost, so the bees are still busy with the asters and any other flowers they can still find.

Swarm of Flying Things

Walking beside the pond, I noticed this swarm of little bugs, and wondered if a photo would turn out.
It did.
I am linking this with Nature Footstep Winged.
And just in case anyone hears about the fatal bus accident in Ottawa, I was nowhere near it, and I am praying for all who were.

Damselfly

I love watching the dragonflies, but I find they never sit still long enough for me to capture them.
This fellow was willing to sit on a stalk of sweet clover long enough for me to get half a dozen images.
I am linking this with Nature Footstep Winged.
Thank you to everyone who explained the difference between dragonflies and damselflies!!!

Geese

Geese usually have their squabbles too far away for me to capture them, so I like this image.
And it is gosling time -
I found two families along the banks of the river.
I am linking this post with NF Winged today.

Annie and the Geese

Walking along the path beside the marsh,
Annie startled a pair of geese which had been admiring the view.
Annie is the black blob in the lower left of the next two images.
I am linking this with NF Winged.
And a photo of Annie, just to prove she has eyes.

Geese

I saw three geese with the mallards in the stream,
but they did not wait to be photographed,
and took off.

Ducks in the Park

When I was in Woodstock last month, the ducks and geese were sitting beside the pond, hoping I had some bread for them.

Evidence of Wild Turkeys

I don't remember seeing wild turkey tracks in the snow, but this week, they are all over.
The turkeys drag their feet through the snow, and even use the track people and dogs have trodden down.
The most interesting thing I found, was the wing marks in the snow.
I don't think the bird was taking off,
but the flight feathers dug into the snow.

Flying into the Christmas Tree

My bil used to pilot small planes,
but now his collection circles the Christmas tree.
