Abstract

I was taking photos in my Dad's garage, and the flash did not go off. Twice.

So these photos were taken with an exposure of more than a second, but I like the way they turned out...

Daylilies in the Evening Sun

I took a lot of photos of my Mom's daylilies, in many lights.

I think I love the evening light the best, though, coming through the petals, creating fire...

Feathers

I love this time of year, when the birds are moulting, and scattering feathers. This one is a swan feather, and the others are more likely to be goose or duck.

Some of the feathers end up covered in dew drops, making the effects even better.

I found this framed photo on the workbench in my Dad's garage. I have no idea who the boy might be, or why he would have dragged it home...

Fleabane

This patch of fleabane fascinated me,

the way the sunlight flowed through the petals, and caught the spiderwebs.

Home Again, and All Is Well

Thank you for all your kind words and prayers.

Mom was sent home last Friday. She is sleeping and eating better at home than she was in the hospital.

She had a cracked rib, and her pelvis was cracked in 5 places. And a sprained ankle that healed on its own, since she was already taking a lot of painkillers.

Mom is alone in the house now, but has care workers coming in every day for several weeks, and my sister will join her for lunch each day.

She is using a walker to get around (I am soooo glad that the bedroom is on the main floor), the kind with a seat on it. She is using the seat to carry stuff, rather than to sit on.

Wednesday, while I made dinner, she watered all the house plants.

And now I am going to have ice cream for dinner and veg in front of the tube.

Morning Glory

There is a patch of morning glories in the ditch

beside one of the paths I walk regularly.

I have to take photos of it, just as regularly...

I love the spiral shape of the buds.

Something about the purity of the white allows the textures to become more visible.

 

Chamomile

The daisies are mostly finished for the year,

but now the chamomile is blooming.

This patch is beside the river.

 

Another Damselfly

So this must be another damselfly, right? It was bigger than the first one I captured.

If I keep this up, I will have to find out what sorts of damselflies...

Bindweed

This is field bindweed, and I see it in lawns. The blossoms are less than two inches across.

That means I have to get right down at ground level to photograph it,

and I bet that amuses the morning commuters.

But you do what the art demands, right?

 

Chicory

I love chicory blossoms.

The colour of them, and the shape of them.

I admit that it is hard to take unique photos of them...

Last year, I found two plants with pink blossoms (only one so far this year)

but there seem to be a lot of lavender blossoms this year.

And this interesting specimen - the rain started in the afternoon, and continued till dark, so the blossoms that opened that day were faded and translucent the next morning.

 

Out of Town for a Week

I am leaving this morning to spend a week with my Mom in Woodstock, Ontario.

No, one of the other Woodstocks.

Mom had a bad car accident, and will be in hospital for a couple of months, recovering.

I am leaving some posts to appear automatically, to keep you amused till I get back next week.

Abstract

I only have one type of cranesbill in my garden. I wish I had a couple more...

Catch the Light

The sunlight coming through the glass panel in the front door struck the wall.

Not all that interesting, I agree.

But I played with the contrast a bit, and it looks much better!!

My Mom made a lot of quilts over the years,

and this is the one I just mailed to my daughter in St. John's, Newfoundland.
