Friday's Fences

There are a couple of fences built like this around tree branches. I wonder how long before the branch outgrows its tiny space, and starts shifting the boards...

Skywatch Friday

I have been watching the moon in the western skies this week, between sunrise and moonset.

Birch Bark

I love the way birch bark curls on the tree,
and the leaves behind the trunk.
For these last two shots, I had my wrist supported by the trunk, looking straight up.

Dawn Reflections

The golden light of dawn casts its magic light
on the cattails, and the reflections in the water.

Rill

I found this rock, spilling the water off its corner, and I am struck by the difference in the two photos. The first is with flash, to stop the movement of the water, and the second is without, blurring the water's movement. Which do you prefer?

Cattails

With the morning sun casts its rays on the bulk of the cattails, they look like this.
But if they are between the camera and the sun,
 they look like this!
I love these halos around the cattails.

Claws

These claws, and a couple of legs,
are lying on top of a rock beside the pond.

Ducks

There are still some ducks around, but they are keeping their distance.

Spiderweb

I would have thought it was getting too cold for spiders and their prey, but I guess not.

War Memorial

A couple of years ago, I took some photos of the War Memorial in downtown Ottawa. It was built after the Great War,
but the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier has been added more recently.
The day I was there, someone had left a rose on the grave.
This is a day to remember the sacrifices of all the men and women, those who have laid down their lives for us, and those who have come back, to pick up their own lives again.

Friday's Fences

Kanata is not exactly flat, but there are no natural hills for tobogganing for anyone over the age of three,
so the city constructed a hill, with fences, to keep the kids safe.
Annie, Jake and I climbed the hill,
admiring the fences and the view.

Skywatch Friday

Dew on the milkweed seeds
fades away as the sun rises above the horizon.

Ice on Puddles

At the beginning of the week,
 the mornings were cold enough
that there was ice on the puddles.

Heart of Stones

I walked past a garden with this wooden heart-shaped bowl, full of stones. I had to capture it, dead leaves and all!

Dawn

Morning has broken,
 like the first morning...
