Milkweed Seed and Snow

I noticed this milkweed seed, caught at the edge of a footstep, and loved the way the late afternoon sun lit it.

Milkweed Fluff

I love seeing the milkweed seeds caught up in other flowers!

First Frost

Now that it is autumn,

the temperatures are dropping.

 We have had first frost,

 maybe even a little late this year.

 There are still some blossoms,

 but the plants will be getting ready for winter,

 and scattering their seeds.

Milkweed

I have been enjoying the milkweed

 and want to share a selection of what I have captured.

 For the most part,

 the seedpods are empty now,

 and the seeds have blown away.

 Some have been caught in other plants,

 and others are lying in the fields, gathering frost.

 

Wild Asters

 and some milkweed fluff

 against the morning sun.

Spiderweb

This spiderweb caught some debris, and the morning sun.

Black Eyed Susans

I have been stalking the black eyed susans again.

 They are finished blooming for the year,

 but I do not think they have lost

 their beauty yet.

Cow Parsnip

This is what most of the cow parsnip looks like in October, but I found one brave plant that was blooming!

The milkweed pods are starting to burst,

and release their seeds.

Morning Sunlight

Milkweed seeds tangled in cow parsnip, and an unknown plant.

Grass seeds, and a fencepost drowning in wild grape vines.

Black Eyed Susan and Milkweed

The mornings have been so dark and cloudy,

I have started bringing seed pods home to photograph.

This is what happens when you put black eyed susans and milkweed into the same bag,

but I rather like the look of the fluff of one caught in the bristles of the other.
