Ducks

A pair of mallards were dabbling in the stream
 as I crossed the bridge.

I love mallards - and not just because they're one of the two or three that I can identify. I love the colours of the drake and the neatness of the duck.

My husband loves all ducks...I am very fond of the Mallards. I think his green head is amazing!
Happy New Year.
Looking forward to 2012.

I like these pictures of the ducks, but obviously they were too busy looking for dinner to pose for you.

It's long time since I last saw a mallard in the flesh - or is that feather.
They were introduced into this country and we had a pair many years ago.
In the 1980's our wildlife authorities decreed that mallards could no longer be kept, because they started breeding with our wild ducks. They were quietly and systematically culled and now you no longer see them in the ponds at parks.
We do, however, have many beautiful indigenous ducks to compensate.
