Horse Chestnuts on the Tree

Do you remember in the spring, when I was posting horse chestnut flowers? Well, here are the results of those flowers! I don't think I have done the link right, but it will get you there.

Nice buckeyes! I have a memory of an outlaw cousin (Appalachia) teaching me to smash them up, tie them into an old pillow case, and sink them in the fishing hole--some kind of neurotoxin paralyzes the fish and you net them as they float through the tail out.

I love the shiny nuts once that hull peels off. Some people used to carry them as good luck charms:)
