Grape Hyacinths

Grape hyacinths have to be my favourite

of the spring garden flowers.

Grape Hyacinth

I found a few grape hyacinth in the garden today,

and brought them indoors before the big snowstorm starts,

sometime in the middle of the night.

 

Watery Wednesday

I woke to snow blanketing the ground yesterday.

 And the lilacs and other trees.

 The temperature was hovering around freezing all day,

 but the snow turned to slush and then to rain.

Other than the interesting photo ops,

 a day to stay indoors and read.

Delicate grape hyacinths are among my favourite spring flowers.

 

More Crocuses

This crocus is showing some frost damage, but the others are all fine.

 While I was photographing them, I discovered a grape hyacinth right beside the foundation of the house. Having that south exposure to trap the heat sure speeds things up, in the garden.

 

Grape Hyacinths

These bulbs were in a package of assorted grape hyacinths. They are the same height as the regular ones, but they look so shaggy. My daughter said they look like the ball of yarn after the cat is done playing with it.

My grape hyacinths are still going strong.

Most of them are the ordinary blue,

but half a dozen are this dark purple.

Grape Hyacinths

When I dug over this garden last fall, and replanted all the tiny bulbs

I had no idea what they were. Now the garden is full of beautiful grape hyacinths!

The grape hyacinths were not in evidence at the flower dhow last week, so I was pleased to see them yesterday.

I think they are my favourite spring flowers.

The grape hyacinths are getting bigger every day.

The crocuses are warming themselves in the morning sun.

The lady's mantle is waiting for the rains.

These beauties are from a neighbour's garden, so I have no idea what they are.
