Milkweed

I have been saving up a month of milkweed images,

waiting for the buds to develop and the blossoms open.

Now the fields smell so sweet!!!

Catalpa

The catalpa trees are blooming,

and photographing them is a good excuse to stand and inhale the fragrance.

I love the ruffly edges of the blossoms!

Currant Blossoms

My Mom's currant bush was in bloom, and I spent some time each day with it,

especially in the later afternoon, when the sun was shining through the flowers and leaves.

Velvetleaf

I was curious about the blossoms of the velvetleaf,

 so I brought a stem home.

 They only last the day,

then develop into seed pods,

 and drop the seeds, ready for spring.

Catalpa Blossoms

The catalpa trees are blooming.

 Large flowers, for a tree,

 and they smell heavenly!

I think this is a maple tree, but it is blooming before coming out in leaf.

Zucchini

The leaves of this zucchini plant

 are so interesting,

don't you think?

Coltsfoot Flowers and Ice

On my morning walk, I found the first of the coltsfoot flowers. 

 They thought it was still a bit nippy, so they were tightly furled.

You would have been too, with ice on the water 20 feet from you.

Mullein

The mullein plants in my garden are beginning to blossom.

I love the way the hairs on the leaves hold the raindrops.

Catalpa

The catalpa trees are starting to blossom.

This is another tree that has the most fragrant flowers in the world. I like to just stand there and breathe, maybe pick up a fallen blossom or two to bring home.

Remember in the late winter, I posted photos of the long, twisted pods? Well, this is what they look like in June!

Milkweed

The milkweed blossoms are ending their life, but the pods are beginning theirs.

I have not seen any monarch butterflies, or caterpillars.

Forsythia

The forsythia has gone from bud to blossom.

My shrub is about 10 feet tall, and ragged, which I prefer to the ones that are nicely pruned.
