Buds

The apple trees are starting to bloom.
Most of the buds and blossoms
are pale, but these are so red!

Old Quarry Trail

I don't know whether these divisions in the rock are natural, or left over from the days when this was a quarry.

Porcupine

It was quite the day for capturing wildlife.
I surprised this porcupine on the ground,
and watched it for a while, before continuing my walk.

Red Squirrels

I was walking along the Old Quarry Trail,
and got between this little guy and his home.
It was so funny watching him have almost enough courage to run past me.
Later, this guy was watching me from a safer perch.

Spring Azure Butterfly

One of the few species of butterflies that I can identify, is the spring azure. When it spreads its wings, they are the most beautiful blue!
Unfortunately, I do not capture moving targets well...

Early Meadow Rue

This is an intriguing plant.
 I first encountered it a couple of years ago;
it is one of two wild rue species listed in my book.
The blossoms are so delicate, they shift as the wind blows.

Marsh Marigolds

The marsh marigolds have started to bloom.
 Cheery yellow blossoms,
but they need a lot of water.
I remember them from my childhood.

New Leaves

I have been watching the trees and shrubs,
admiring the shapes and colours of the new leaves,
especially with the sun streaming through them.
Some of them, I can identify,
and some of them, I cannot.

Tulips

After work, the sun was streaming
 through the tulips,
 making them glow like fire.

Rusted Car Door

There are a couple of old car doors
that have been in the woods for a long time.
 They are an interesting study
 in the life of rust.

Watery Wednesday

The geese seem to be still in pairs,
so I don't think they are nesting yet.

First Ducklings

No, this is not a funny shaped duck. She has ducklings glued to her side, and is keeping them away from the dogs.
The first ducklings I have seen this year.
