That is one spiky plant. Looks like a cousin of artichoke. And the leaves look like distant cousin of lambs ears.
It's totally some kind of alien larva. Or a relative of the artichoke, I suppose
I have no idea what sort of a plant this is,
but there was a whole bed of them, some of them coming into bloom.
