William Lyon MacKenzie King Estate

King was the Prime Minister of Canada in the '30s and 40's. He spent a lot of time working on his estate in the Gatineau Hills. He laid out some formal gardens,

but he had some parts of buildings brought in, to create the "ruins'. This doorway originally graced a bank building.

Most of the ruins were placed to simulate an abbey that had been abandoned.

It was a rainy day when we were there,

but we had a good outing.

  1. Beautiful, dreamy place... Imagine calling all that home?! This reminds me that we've not yet been to a formal/botanical garden yet this summer. Happy Days, Judy :o) ((HUGS))

  2. What an interesting place. I found it fascinating that the gardens were designed to look like an abandoned abbey.

  3. Very pretty. I like the archeway. Was he the one who spent time with a psychic, communing with the spirit of his dead mother? Or was it his dead dog... I can never keep that story straight in my mind
