Geese Preening

I was at Mooney's Bay last week, and the geese

came back after a day of feeding in the fields.

The next order of business was to tidy up. I like the synchronized preening exhibit here.

And then you have to stretch...

and settle more feathers.

Swans have 22 vertebrae in their necks, and geese must have nearly the same number, being closely related. I think. In any case, they can turn their heads upside down, as you can tell from the position of his chin patch!

  1. I was watching the Canada geese at the local pond the other day and they were making all the same moves, it is fun to watch as them preening. Great shots, the synchronized preening is really cute.

  2. Wow, there are so many happy geese here. They seem to be enjoying themselves. I wonder if any one of them can lay a golden egg?

  3. Everyone's preening and looking so pretty! I love Canadian Geese... We don't have them over here in Norway, so I miss then from back home in the USA. :o) Happy Day... Oh, the stephanotis plant is gorgeous--the scent is heavenly! I've not had this plant before--but so far so good. It is a thirsty creature though, needing water twice a week.

  4. These pictures of the geese preening are just great. Of course, they make me feel as stiff as a board in comparison, but what can I say?
