Whatever it is it's absolutely gorgeous. I just love those flowers with that neat green colour and the red buds are just as pretty. Great find and great shots.
I also am learning my trees. I think when it is in leaf you may be able to make a positive id. It is lovely bud! I thought of you when I cut some lilacs yesterday. They smell divine! Sherry
I think this is a red or swamp maple, female.
Nothing else in the book looks even remotely similar.
